Frequently asked questions
Why do people need to replace their remote controls?
The most common reason is that the old one has stopped working. This can be for one of a number of reasons from chewed by the dog, accidentally thrown at the tv screen, stood on, sat on, dropped in tea or coffee, or just worn out.
Do we need more than one remote control?
Yes, many people do like to have two. It stops arguments over who gets to be in charge of it, although causes others when a zapping war starts up.
Are replacement remote controls just as good as the manufacturers own?
Sometimes they are, sometimes not. The remote supplied with the tv may just be a standard model and you could buy a replacement which does lots of other things.
The manufacturers one is usually best integrated with all the features of the set it is controlling. However, they use model codes to control the functions, so often they are just the same.
Can we have an extra remote control in the bedroom?
Yes, many of the transmitters which allow tv, particularly Sky satellite tv, to be watched on a set away from the main tv can carry messages back from the remote used in the bedroom to control the Sky box, for example, in the living room, so an extra remote can be very handy.
What are universal remote controls?
Universal remotes are all in one devices, which can control other devices as well as the tv, such as a DVD player, video recorder, cable or satellite box, and other equipment.
